Today I want to talk about silence. In regards to praying there is one main thing I think about when I hear the word silence.
The long period of time when we are searching our lives for any indication that there has been an answer to prayer. That feeling of standing lost and alone, wondering where to go from the spot you are in.
We know that he hears each prayer. Psalm 6:9 says -
The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord accepts my prayer.
That means we can know that he hears our prayers. So why does it feel sometimes like he doesn't answer? I don't think it is because he didn't answer, rather he didn't respond the way WE wanted.
He doesn't abandon us, it is just that we don't always see or understand what he is doing in our lives. One thing I know we can be assured of is that he thinks and wants what is best for us.
Jeremiah 29:11 tells us what he does think about us...
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Silence and unanswered prayers don't mean he doesn't love us. They are simply a reminder that he sees the whole picture and we don't. In my experience it is usually a sign that he has something better in mind.
Can you think of a time when you remember God being silent in your life?
